Folklore Programs

DANCING ON THE SHIP

On all our folk dance cruises, our participants will have the opportunity to dance on the ship with Yves and France and guest teachers. The dancing normally takes place during the evening hours using one of the ship's available public areas (ballroom, lounge, exercise room, deck space, etc.) We work closely with the ship's Activities Director who assigns us space based on availability. We usually try to schedule 1-2 hours every day. When the ship is at sea, we can also schedule an extra morning class.  We have with us a portable sound system and laptop computer with a wide selection of international favorites. Yves, France & guest teachers teach and lead fun dances for all. For some of our past cruises, our group has often «performed» a short folk dance number as part of the weekly Talent Show.  It is not unusual for passengers and crew members to come by and watch us dance. Many cruise ships have staff members who come from various countries: Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Indonesia, Philippines, etc.

FOLKLORE PROGRAMS ON LAND

Yves and France share an extensive network of folklore contacts worldwide (Yves worked for many years for Folklore Canada International, CIOFF Canada, organizing International Folklore Festivals in Canada). Through both personal and official channels, they are able to organize privileged contacts with folklore dancers, musicians and artists in many ports of call we will be visiting.  A typical scenario, is that upon arrival in the morning, a private bus will be waiting for us to take us to a venue where we will have the opportunity to meet a group of folk performers who will offer us a short private performance, teach us a few simple dances or make us discover a specific aspect of the local folk traditions.  A typical  meal is often included in a traditional restaurant with live music, etc.  These friendly get-togethers are great opportunities for photo and video memories.  We try also to obtain information on where to buy CDs, books, costumes, instruments, handicraft, etc.  There is no obligation to take part in one of these exclusive folk programs.  You will also have the opportunity to sign up on one of the many tours and excursions offered by the Cruise Line and their partner Tour Operators.  Dozens of tours are offered and detailed information and prices are often available on the Cruise Line's official website.  You can reserve a particular tour in advance or do it on board a few days before scheduled arrival in port.  Our exclusive folklore tours are not offered to other passengers and our prices are quite competitive and usually considerably cheaper than the ship's regular tours and excursions.  Below, are some photos taken during folk programs on previous cruises.
